A 47-year-old police officer accused of raping a teenage girl in IJsselstein last year will be charged with the offence, the public prosecution office has confirmed following claims on a radio crime show Het Misdaadbureau (the crime bureau).
Walco B, described as “a very experienced police officer” will appear in court on June 9 along with another suspect who was also party to the rape.
The girl, said to be between 16 and 18 years old, was picked up in a bar in IJsselstein by B and his friend. She was drunk, the public prosecution office said, and B, who told her he was a police officer, offered to take her home. She was then taken to a car park and allegedly raped.
The police told broadcaster NOS that the suspect no longer worked as a police officer by the end of last year and had been assigned a civilian role. After the girl reported him, police started an internal investigation. B is now in the final phase of his dismissal from the service, the spokesman said.
Details of the investigation and the suspect were first made public in the crime broadcast earlier this week.
