The 66-year-old man who was caught abusing a child while working as a substitute daycare assistant at a Partou daycare centre in Amsterdam Oost had been offering his services as a care professional since 2023, the Parool reported.
Jan B, who also taught at a further education college, described himself on his website as a “caretaker”, offering “pedagogical support”, including to children with developmental problems, autism and Down syndrome.
On his LinkedIn profile, B said he had “10 years’ experience working in daycare centres. The site features positive reviews from parents but the paper was unable to verify these. It is also unclear if his qualifications are genuine.
B was caught abusing a two-year-old on November 26 by the regular daycare worker on his first day of working as a substitute. He was immediately told to leave and was later reported to police by the child’s father and arrested.
Since 2013, following an horrendous child abuse case at another creche in Amsterdam, daycare centres must work according to the so-called “four eyes principle”, which means creche workers have to be within eye or earshot of each other.
A search of the man’s phone and computer turned up images of B sexually assaulting an autistic boy who was 13 at the time. The public prosecution office has since accused B of making pornographic photographs of two other children – a baby and a three-year-old boy – and taking nude photographs of nine others.
There are no indications that others were involved or that he spread the photographs online, the public prosecution department said in a statement.
The man has been held in custody since his arrest and will appear in court on March 11.
